Cedar
Landscaping Materials

Green Forest is the last cedar sawmill still in operation in Minnesota. We buy 3,000 – 4,000 cords of northern white cedar annually from local loggers that are primarily harvesting pulp wood for the local papermill. Many times the cedar trees are mixed in with the aspen trees and need to be cut down to gain access to the pulp wood. Without a mill such as us being in operation, the cedar tree may end up going to waste. We also provide an additional revenue source for loggers that are already struggling to make a living in this very old profession.

As part of our standard sawmill operation, we generate 3 types of landscape materials:

1

Shredded Cedar Bark (generated from our log peeling operation)

2

Cedar Chips (no bark)

3

Tub-Ground Cedar Mulch (Ground Shredded Cedar Bark and Cedar Logs)

In keeping with “going green”, our wood waste edgings and slabs are ground into marketable mulch for landscaping purposes. Our up-to-date equipment allows us to utilize the whole tree with virtually no waste to our environment.
